Quilting 101:  Stabilize~Details~Fills   15mins Detailed PDF printable handout available

This is how I approach almost every quilt, (except an all over edge-to-edge.)  You’ve probably heard me say, “Stabilize, Details, Fills.”  This approach gives you a game plan of where to start, and gives you the ability to leave a few areas open till you figure out those last few options…  It helps you have fun with your quilting, be successful today, and minimizes many frustrations…  In a perfect world, our straight square quilt tops would stay that way…  but we are quilting on fabric, not graph paper or computer screens…  So trust me, before you even turn on your ProStitcher or other Computerized system, Stabilize as much as possible… This will help you drop in your digital designs with less wonkiness, keep your borders smoother, minimize stitch scrunch, and add just enough forgiveness to make LongArm Quilting easier!

This class is a great prep for Computerized Quilting, but encourages you to play with Free Motion just a bit, too (it comes in handy when the robotics are being stubborn).  If you use strictly FMQ, this approach will also help you tremendously!  SDF allows you to roll back and forth throughout your quilt, reduces frequency of thread color changes, keeps hand guided fills stay more evenly sized, and so much more!

No bias here!  Paola Jo from SederQuilts provides longarm training via videos and remote personal tutoring to both newbie and veteran quilters.  She loves answering questions, puzzling through oodles of options, and passing along life skills disguised as quilting techniques.  With years of experience, Paola Jo will provide you with the confidence and skills you need to go from wonky to Wow!
